CRUMB RUBBER MODIFIED BITUMEN (CRMB) / POLYMER MODIFIED BITUMEN (PMB)

Bitumenised / tarred roads need no introduction about there presence in linking the road communications. Yet the asphaltene present in the bitumen becomes charred and rutted with the lapse of time, after prolonged usages, exposures to the extreme weather conditions, viz. cold/rainy/hot and tend to come out in pieces. Innovation in this field have been made by introduction of modification of bitumen. CATIONIC BITUMEN EMULSION
As per IS : 8887/1980

Manufactured out of Bitumen, water and emulsifier in a colliodal mill is a cold applied emulsion recommended by Indian Roads Congress and approved by Ministry of Surface Transport for various road works such as Premix Carpeting, Surface Dressing, Seal Coats and Pot Hole Repairs etc. Available ready stock in three types : Rapid Setting, Medium Setting and Slow Setting.

Rapid Setting Emulsions :

Rapid Setting (RS) grade Emulsion has been divided into two different grade of emulsions:-

Rapid Setting -1 (RS-1):- Bitumen Emulsion for roads (cationic type) conforming to IS: 8887:2004 grade Rapid setting -1 (RS-1). This type of emulsion is used for tack coat applications otherwise directed by the engineer.
Rapid Setting -2 (RS-2):- Bitumen Emulsion for roads (cationic type) conforming to IS: 8887:2004 grade Rapid setting -2 (RS-2). This type of emulsion is specially recommended for surface dressing work or otherwise directed by the engineer.

HI-FIX CATIONIC BITUMEN EMULSION

"HI-FIX" is the brand name of Cationic Bitumen Emulsions manufactured and marketed by JALNIDHI BITUMEN SPECIALITIES PVT. LTD. There are three types of Bitumen Emulsions used for road construction classified as "RAPID SETTING", "MEDIUM SETTING", and "SLOW SETTING" with different characteristics of breaking and setting times.

Medium Setting Emulsions :

Bitumen Emulsion for roads (cationic type) conforming to IS: 8887:2004 grade Medium Setting (MS).

Medium setting :- A Medium setting Emulsion used for plant or road mixes with coarse aggregates minimum 80 percent, all of witch is retained on 2036mm IS sieve and practically none of witch passes 180 micron IS sieve, and also for surface dressing and penetration macadam or otherwise directed by the engineer.

Slow Setting Emulsions :

SLOW SETTING (SS) grade emulsion has been divided into two different grade of Emulsions:-

Slow Setting -1 (SS-1):- Bitumen Emulsion for roads (cationic type) conforming to IS: 8887:2004 grade Slow setting -1 (SS-1). This type of emulsion is recommended for prime coat, fog seal, & crack sealing application or otherwise directed by the engineer.
Slow Setting -2 (SS-2):- Bitumen Emulsion for roads (cationic type) conforming to IS: 8887:2004 grade Slow setting -2 (SS-2). This type of emulsion is used in cold mixed MSS, SDBC and Slurry Seal or otherwise directed by the engineer.

CSS-1h (ASTM-D-2397)

Emulsion use for prime Coat and it should be sprayed with jet compressure for uniformity. It should penetrate minimum 3 mm or otherwise directed by the engineers.

Advantages :

(i) "HI-FIX" is applied cold thus saving energy in form of firewood or oils.
(ii) No health hazards because of absolute pollution free.
(iii) Except heavy downpour, construction in wet weather possible.
(iv) Can be used at low temperature down upto -5oC.
(v) Forest conservation maintained.
(vi) Overall saving in time, manpower and money.
